The Coaching

Professional chess coaching in Kolkata.

Chess coaching in Kolkata is usually sold as a weekly class. Ours is a course. Every student, at every centre, works through one published curriculum of 240 taught sessions in a fixed order, so a parent can read exactly what their child will be taught in session forty as easily as in session four.

Nobody is dropped into a generic beginner slot either. A free demo class is a real assessment: the coach watches the student play, then names the session to start from. A child who already knows the rules skips ahead to tactics instead of relearning how a rook moves.

Batches are kept small enough that every child is corrected by name. Between classes, homework, coach feedback, weekly academy tournaments and progress reports sit in the student portal, which parents can see for themselves rather than having to ask how it is going.

Coaches with federation credentials

A FIDE Instructor who has trained IMs, GMs and Asian-level champions, a FIDE-certified National Instructor, and FIDE-rated coaches at every other centre.

Affiliated and recognised

Affiliated to Kolkata District Chess Association. Recognised By Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha.

Tournament preparation, not just classes

Students are prepared for and entered into district, state and national rated events, with weekly academy tournaments in between.

Offline and online on one syllabus

Miss a centre batch and the same session is available in a live online batch, with identical homework and tracking.

Every Level

Chess classes in Kolkata for every skill level.

The same ladder runs at all 4 centres. Where a student joins it is decided by a coach in the demo class, not by age or by how long they have been playing.

Beginner chess classes

For a child who has never played, or who knows roughly how the pieces move. Starts from the board, the pieces and notation, and finishes with checkmate delivered on purpose.

Beginner course syllabus

Intermediate chess training

For the player who knows the rules but keeps losing pieces. A full tactics stage: forks, pins, skewers, back rank, discovered attacks, up to mate in three.

Intermediate course syllabus

Advanced and competitive chess coaching

For tournament players. Endgame technique and a working opening repertoire, then advanced calculation, then pawn structure and theoretical endgames at Masters level.

Advanced course syllabus

Why Envision

Why parents in Kolkata choose Envision Chess Academy.

Not a set of loose classes. A published syllabus, a coach who places your child at the right session, and a portal where parents can see every class, score and tournament result.

A real curriculum, not ad-hoc lessons

Five stages, fifteen levels and 240 taught sessions, from the first move through to Masters. Every level is sixteen sessions across two months.

Your child starts at the right level

A free assessment with a coach places them at the exact session to begin from, rather than a generic beginner slot.

Everything in one portal

Live classes, homework, tournaments, coach feedback, progress reports, invoices and payments behind a single login.

Feedback every week

Coaches review submitted homework and answer questions between classes, so nothing waits until the next session.

Competition is built in

Weekly academy tournaments with real pairings, live games, results and leaderboards - not just practice games.

Parents can see all of it

Attendance, assignment scores, tournament results and fee history are visible to parents, not only to the student.

Questions

Questions about our chess academy in Kolkata.

Where the centres are, who teaches, what a beginner starts with, and how to get in touch.

Which is a good chess academy in Kolkata for kids?

Look for three things: a published syllabus rather than ad-hoc lessons, coaches with a real federation qualification, and proof of what students have won. Envision is affiliated to the Kolkata District Chess Association and recognised by Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha, teaches a fixed 240-session curriculum, and every centre is run by a FIDE-rated or FIDE-certified coach. Book a free demo class and judge the coaching for yourself before paying anything.

Where does Envision Chess Academy have centres in Kolkata?

Four centres: Bowbazar in central Kolkata, Haridevpur in the south-west, and Jodhpur Park and New Alipore in the south. Each centre page lists its address, batch timings, coach and contact number.

Do you offer beginner chess classes in Kolkata?

Yes. The beginner stage starts from the board, the pieces, notation and the rules that catch people out, and runs for 48 sessions before the tactics stage begins. A child who has never played a full game can start there.

Do you provide advanced chess coaching in Kolkata?

Yes. Above the beginner and tactics stages the ladder continues into endgame technique and opening repertoire, then advanced calculation, then positional play and theoretical endgames - the material rated games are actually decided by.

Are your chess coaches FIDE rated or certified?

Yes. Haridevpur is taught by FIDE Instructor Sayan Bose, who has trained International Masters, Grandmasters and Asian-level champions. Bowbazar is taught by FIDE-certified National Instructor Sayantan Chandra. Jodhpur Park and New Alipore are taught by FIDE-rated coaches.

Do you prepare students for chess tournaments?

Yes. Tournament preparation runs at every centre, weekly academy tournaments run inside the student portal, and students are entered for external rated events - which is where the academy's state, national and international results come from.

What age can children start chess classes?

Most children start between five and seven, once they can sit through a class and follow a rule. There is no upper age limit: adult beginners and returning players join the same beginner stage.

Are both group and individual chess classes available?

Yes. Every centre runs interactive group batches and one-to-one coaching on the same syllabus. The demo assessment covers which format suits the player.

Can I book a demo chess class in Kolkata?

Yes, and it is free. The demo is a real assessment class with a coach that ends in a level recommendation, with no obligation to enrol. You can take it at a centre or online.

Do you also offer online chess coaching?

Yes. The same five courses run live online for students anywhere in India and in 15+ other countries, with identical homework, tournaments and progress tracking.

What are the chess class fees in Kolkata?

Fees vary by centre, batch and format, so our team shares the current fee structure with you directly when you book a demo class.
